Episode 95 – Engagement & Wickaninnish Inn

Good afternoon! This is Jessi Johnson and [Janakie], Janakie who? [Singham.] It is May 17th. We are at the Wickaninnish Inn. Did I pronounce that appropriately?  [You did.] We’re going to give you a video tour. Nothing really to say other than if you get a chance to take a vacation this is a pretty outstanding [It's gorgeous] location. This is our hotel room. First of all we’re here to celebrate something. Care to explain what that is? [Would you care to explain what that is?] No, I asked you first. [Well, I didn't know but apparently we came here to get engaged.] We did yes. She said yes! Pretty cool stuff. I’m going to give you a tour of the room and the hotel if you care to take a listen or a look. Starting from our hotel room, we are at this area called The Point. As you can see the view is pretty amazing. Off in the yonder over there is a bunch of surfers. Down here is a massage spa sort of room where you get massaged on the beach. We have our own private patio for those zen moments. Fireplace which is not currently lit. Laptop by the side to get a little bit of work done by the window. When you turn around it’s a very large room. They’ve got a CD player with immaculate CD’s. Well very lovey dovey stuff. TV with DVD player, extra bonus. Microwave, coffees and teas. A little business center with internet and everything. As you can see by the raincoat that I’m wearing they have full rain attire because we’re going to go out and we anticipate it might rain. The bathroom is huge. Nice stand up shower, you could probably fit two in there. When you turn around check this out. It is a jacuzzi that holds how many people? [Four. Perverts!] Perverts. Four person jacuzzi overlooking while you’re storm watching. Pretty cool. Now we are going to take you throughout the rest of the hotel on a quick tour for those of you who are curious as to what the Wickaninnish looks like. We’re actually going to go this way. Our room is conveniently at the front entrance. As you can see it’s got quite a nice lobby. Say hello. {Hello there!} Art everywhere. [I believe local art.] It is all local isn’t it? We should probably go into the bar for a quick second hey? Hi. I’m filming your surroundings. Hope you don’t mind. Say hello. (Hello. It’s the pictures that don’t really make it, it’s what you create out of it from memory.) [It's the experience.] Are you having a good memory so far baby? [So far so good.] So far so good. (Where are you guys from?) [Vancouver.] (OK, so not too far.) [Not too far.] (Nice to get out of the city once in awhile.) [Absolutely.] This is the main bar/restaurant area. (Yes, this is On the Rocks Lounge and The Point Restaurant.) How do we get outside to make use of this rain gear? This way or that way? (Just out the main entrance and there’s a beach walkway.) Awesome. Thank you very much. Here’s the champagne for breakfast. We tried some of that a little earlier. It was very delicious. This is going to be a very long video. [Yeah it is.] People maybe will get bored. Beautiful entranceway. Beautiful sun. Beautiful girl. Beautiful log building. The entire structure is all made of log. Machine groomed attempted to look like chips. Really quite neat. Complimentary valet parking. Heading down towards the beach access. Should we enlighten them with a funny story? This is amazing. Look at the size of that wind chime. Funny story of how I went out to get you a ring. Funny story, not very funny. About a month ago I went to this place called Object Design. I was highly recommended by a bunch of people. I don’t recommend it. The guy took my money, promised this beautiful artistic ring that I designed with the help of my fiancée’s suggestions and nothing happened. He didn’t do anything. He sat there. I went to pick up the ring last day and he hadn’t even started yet. Unfortunate experience. Luckily for me she’s a very reasonable person. You do like the design right? She loves it. We’re in this beautiful rain forest. Do we need a dog house towel? [No.] No. Are you coming? Let’s go this way. The Wickaninnish’s big shtick is storm watching. It’s in Tofino by Ucluelet. Right beside Long Beach. The neat thing about this place is they get some pretty amazing storms. The actual hotel itself is full of tiny little things like this as you can see. Everywhere. Where you have a rock where they’ve cut in half and put a light so the whole area is lit up at night. Little things, like inside the actual restaurant they have Tannoy Monitors. Well I mean, I use those in my studio and they’re around $800 each. They’ve probably got 15 in there. It’s amazing when you get to go to a place like this and actually the tide comes all the way up to the end as you can see by all the driftwood. This beach is just stunning. I don’t know if you can see that out there. I’ll try to zoom in a little bit. How many surfers are out there? 50? Don’t they know it’s cold? That’s my stint on the Wickaninnish. We wish you a very good day. You can reach me at www.jessijohnson.ca or www.firsthomeinfo.ca. Have a good day. Bye!
