Episode 82 Transcript – Trademarking your product

You are live with Jessi Johnson. Having a bit of an issue today. My topic unfortunately is trademark issues. I have recently taken it upon myself to brand Mortgage Sense. I’m not starting a company called Mortgage Sense but my TV spots, radio spot, Mortgage Sense seminars, Mortgage Sense everything. It’s like a form of branding I’m doing. Well, I had a very polite email from a broker in Ontario who very politely informed me to discontinue immediately. They actually have Mortgage Sense trademarked. Their company is Mortgage Sense Inc. and apparently I can’t use it. Boo! Anyways, no big deal. They were very polite and I’m in the process of trademarking a new phrase which I’ve got figured out. I’m not going to tell you so you don’t go trademarking it and trying to sell it to me for a zillion dollars. Anyways, this is your friendly reminder, don’t pull a Jessi Johnson and go do a whole whack of work and find out the name you’re using is trademarked. Not good!
