Episode 78 Transcript – Canceling the fireworks?
Hello! You’re here with Jessi Johnson live. I’ve got a couple of rants, complaints I’d like to discuss with you today. Vancouver, people used to bug, people used to call it Nofuncouver, whatever. We lost the car races in Vancouver, the Indy. We lost that a year or two ago. Terrible. I can’t believe we let that slide. This year they’re announcing they’re losing the fireworks. Are you kidding me? The biggest event that attracts 400,000 per event out of four events. What’s that? 1.6 million people in attendance. Bringing in something like 35 or 40 million dollars worth of revenue to local businesses and you’re going to cancel because you’re short $400,000. Are you kidding me? What, they couldn’t find any extra sponsors? $400,000? Put up a banner on every street corner and sell them for $10,000 a piece. I’m sure the major companies, Home Depot, all these major businesses would want to be “associated” with the community. They’d happily pitch in. $400,000 is a joke to lose the biggest spectacle of all of Vancouver. I mean, it attracts 400,000 people per event. What the hell where they thinking? Find a different sponsor. I know they can’t let cigarettes, fine, but what about alcohol or if you don’t want to do alcohol let a political party. I’m sure the Liberals would jump all over that. The opportunity to put that in. Not like they’d have a problem finding sponsorship. There’s so many opportunities here that are available and no ones jumping on them. Now they’re saying the deadlines passed, we as the people can’t jump in and take over. This pisses me off and I’m not happy. Not in the slightest. Another issue is they’re talking about the nightlife. Everyone’s complaining because the nightlife used to go until 5am in the morning for a little while there. Now they say, oh there’s too many fights, blah, blah, blah. You let the clubs go till 5am in the morning but the city goes ahead and lets booze drinking until 5am in the morning, of course there’s going to be fights. Cut off the liquor at 2 or 3am. Let people dance it off for another 2 or 3 hours. Sell water at 4, 5 or 6 bucks a bottle. Who cares? People aren’t going to complain as long as they can keep dancing and they don’t have to go home. Use your head. I’m speaking to the politicians of Vancouver. I’m sorry but I don’t know what you’re doing to allow the fireworks to go. Anyways, I’m Jessi Johnson.
