Episode 67 Transcript – RSS feeds & connecting to First Home Info
Hello! You are live with Jessi Johnson. I just got back from Mexico and my point of the day today is that I would like to discuss is RSS feeds. Now please don’t ask me what that abbreviates to because I don’t have a clue but I know the concept of what it does and it’s pretty cool. I have a video blog as you know because you’re watching it right now and this is just another form of a blog. It’s a way of me expressing or talking about my thoughts or ideas and showing it to the general public to educate people, etc, etc. I have a number of people that comment all the time on my blogs, they hopefully enjoy them and hopefully they’re not lying too much, they always ask how do I stay updated, how do I know you’ve got new blogs coming out without having to check your website daily. A lot of the information that I put in my blogs is time sensitive so if there is a promotion going on about rates or deals it might be relevant to know about that now as opposed to a month from now. I’ll show you what I’m talking about here. If you go to my laptop here and you go to a website. Let’s go over to Google here and we’ll click on my bookmark for firsthomeinfo.ca and you will see a very sexy guy talking away, that’s me. What you can do is go to vBlog right at the top and this is one way you can just take a look at all my blogs. It’s got my Episode 58, Christmas Financial Hangover and it describes suggestions on how to get out of that. You can go down below and you can see further other video blogs with a quick capture at some point in the blog. Gives you an idea of what you are looking at. On the right hand side you can see Archives. I’ve been doing them for about six months now and on this side you can click on right here, Subscribe to my vBlog. This takes you to a screen that allows you to put in your email and it will subscribe or unsubscribe you. What that does is it sends you an email each time I post a new blog but that’s not my comment for today because that is the “old school” way of doing it. If you look down a little further right here, RSS Feed. This takes you to a new screen and what this does in the top left hand corner up here, you’re able to choose which program or website you would like to view this RSS feed in. Now 90% of you will use Google, a few will use Yahoo, bloglines, etc, etc. You can choose other applications if you so choose. We are going to use Google. Click on Google and then you go to subscribe. Now, inside Google it gives you two more options, number 1 and number 2. Number 2 is Google reader which is an area for reading various blogs. It’s for people who subscribe to tons and tons of blogs. For someone who would only subscribe to one or two, three or four, a smaller amount, you’re probably going to want to go to Google home page. If you click on this, I’m not going to because I’m already on Google home page, I already have myself on my Google home page, big surprise! www.firsthomeinfo.ca.
