Episode 27 Transcript – Open houses

Hello! You have Jessi Johnson live here. I am currently at an open house right now with a good realtor friend of mine, Jessica Leung. I want to talk about open houses. Many people, realtors in general, in the past especially with the hot market we’ve had, simply took your property listing for you and put it on the market and when they were doing their open houses would simply just put it on the MLS, cross their fingers and hope for the best. Well unfortunately right now it’s a bit of buyers market and when it comes to listings you have to do a lot more than the standard. This is a beautiful property, no question. Gas fireplace, if you look out here it has a nice patio. It’s a three level townhouse in the Burnaby area. Now this property itself is going for $628,000. There are a lot of tricks you can do to market your open house other than the standard putting it on the MLS and hoping for the best. You can flyer the nearby area repetitiously, you can email contacts, you can place ads in local newspapers, put signage around the entire area marketing the open house all week not just the day of. There are lots of little things you can and can’t do. My point of today is to do your own due diligence. Find out from your realtor what exactly they are going to be doing for marketing of your property far in advance because some realtors give it extra love and others don’t. That’s my word of the day.
